The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has once again prohibited the use of point-of-sale (POS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and facilities nationwide.

The ban, reiterated by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, comes amid reports of unauthorized financial activities involving POS operators and certain police personnel.

Adejobi emphasized the imperative to safeguard the integrity and security of police operations, mitigate potential corrupt practices, and eradicate any criminal intrusions masquerading as legitimate transactions. He underscored the necessity for strict adherence to the directive to uphold discipline within the Force.

Despite previous directives, instances of non-compliance persist in some Commands and Formations, prompting the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to issue stern warnings of severe sanctions against violators. The IGP underscored the inherent risks associated with electronic payment devices within police facilities, including the compromise of sensitive information and facilitation of illicit activities.

Officers and personnel have been unequivocally instructed to adhere to the ban without exception, with the IGP cautioning against any contravention. Stringent disciplinary and criminal measures await any police officer or POS operator found engaging in illicit financial transactions, with Command/Formation leadership equally held accountable.

As the Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to maintaining transparency and upholding ethical standards, the reinforcement of this ban signifies a proactive step towards ensuring the integrity and credibility of law enforcement operations nationwide.
