Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, has underscored the pivotal role of innovation, science, and technology (IST) in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and propelling its advancement.
Speaking at the World Press Briefing of the Technology Innovation Expo 2024, themed “Solution to National Economic Challenges,” Nnaji emphasized that IST serves as the vital solution and engine room for transforming the nation’s economy.
Nnaji articulated that the Technology Expo aims to promote locally made goods and services, thereby reducing import costs, boosting revenue generation, fostering employment opportunities, and enhancing the standard of living for Nigerians.
The Minister elucidated that the Technology and Innovation Expo serves as a platform to raise awareness about science and technology while showcasing achievements and fostering collaboration among inventors, innovators, and investors for the commercialization of research outputs.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving economic diversification and industrialization through the application of IST as outlined in its Renewed Hope Agenda.
Expressing optimism for the future, Nnaji emphasized the importance of collective efforts in realizing a service-driven economy that is competitive and independent socio-economically and politically.
In urging Nigerian Technopreneurs in the Organized Public Sector (OPS) to collaborate with the Ministry, Nnaji emphasized the significance of patriotism and inward-looking approaches in developing the country’s IST sector for economic growth and national development.
Echoing Nnaji’s sentiments, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Esuabana Nko-Asanye, highlighted the potential of scientific tools in addressing the nation’s challenges and ensuring Nigeria’s active participation in the fourth industrial revolution.
