MainOne, a Lagos-based provider of connectivity and data center solutions, has significantly bolstered broadband connectivity in South-South Nigeria with the landing of the 2Africa submarine cable at Qua Iboe, Akwa Ibom state.

Serving as the landing provider for the expansive 45,000-kilometer 2Africa cable, MainOne facilitated the construction and landing operations of the largest cable system globally.

With a design capacity of 180Tbps, this high-capacity cable is poised to address the pressing need for broadband capacity in underserved and unserved markets within the region.

According to Abayomi Adebanjo, MainOne’s Regional Business Head, the cable landing marks a pivotal milestone that will accelerate accessibility to 4G, 5G, and fixed broadband services, consequently catalyzing digital transformation across vital sectors in the South-South region.

Adebanjo emphasized that the robust cable infrastructure will empower businesses, institutions, and facilities with resilient connectivity, fostering digital innovation and growth.

Furthermore, he noted that the cable landing is aligned with the objectives of Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan, aiming to enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure resilience and stimulate the digital economy.

By establishing reliable distribution channels, the 2Africa cable is poised to unlock a new digital ecosystem in the South-South region, fueling economic development and inclusivity.

Adebanjo underscored the transformative potential of this submarine fiber optic cable, which spans vast distances and interconnects Akwa Ibom and the South-South Region with Europe, Asia, and other parts of Africa. This milestone signifies a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and democratizing access to digital resources for millions of individuals in previously underserved areas of Nigeria.

In conclusion, Adebanjo reiterated MainOne’s commitment, alongside its strategic partners, to invest in transformative digital infrastructure projects capable of driving the digital economy and facilitating socio-economic development nationwide.
