Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reported significant progress in the fight against crime, citing the recent interception of 53 stolen electrical transformers intended for electrification projects across the state. The governor expressed satisfaction with the subsequent arrest of the criminal gang responsible for the theft, signaling an improvement in anti-crime efforts. This information was conveyed in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, during an assessment of the state’s security situation.

Governor Ododo commended the dedication of security agencies operating in the state, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to their responsibilities. The stolen transformers, taken from the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) facility in the state, were seized from the gang in Obajana while en route to Lagos State.

According to the statement, the recovered transformers, now stored at an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) facility in the state, likely prevented their installation in various communities earlier in the year. The criminals provided crucial information leading to the apprehension of a fleeing gang member in Ilorin, Kwara State, and the alleged receiver of the transformers in Lagos State.

Governor Ododo reiterated his commitment to eradicating crimes and criminality in the state, pledging maximum support from the state government to ensure the security of lives and property throughout the region.
