In a bid to address hunger and food scarcity in Nigeria, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has announced the commencement of the sale of seized food items to vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
Adeniyi made this disclosure during a sectoral debate session at the House of Representatives, where he highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s directive to sell locally-produced food items seized at Nigerian land borders directly to those in need.
“We have begun the process of selling locally-produced food items seized at the borders directly to needy Nigerians. This initiative is aimed at alleviating the challenges of hunger and food scarcity,” Adeniyi stated, emphasizing that the initiative has already commenced in Lagos.
Furthermore, Adeniyi revealed that imported food items seized by the Nigeria Customs Service will also be sold back to local markets for resale to Nigerians, in line with President Tinubu’s directive.
This initiative is expected to provide relief to vulnerable individuals and households across the country, contributing to efforts to combat hunger and ensure food security for all Nigerians.
