In the Gwagwa area of Abuja, businessman and grain seller Murtala Ibrahim faced substantial losses, totaling around N120 million, when a rented warehouse containing assorted grains worth N210 million was attacked by a mob who looted the facility.

The incident unfolded on an early Sunday morning, as a crowd armed with deadly weapons descended upon the private warehouse. The mob, under the false belief that it belonged to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and stored commodities meant for Nigerians, engaged in looting.

Contrary to the misconception, NEMA clarified that the targeted warehouse did not belong to the agency. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ibrahim detailed the incident and the resulting losses, stating, “I had over 550 bags of rice, 550 bags of sugar, and 200 bags of beans, all totaling N210 million. What we managed to recover was only about N90 million.”

Ibrahim, upon receiving a distress call about the attempted break-in by the mob, rushed to the scene but found himself helpless in the face of the crowd.
