US Vice President Kamala Harris called for a proposed six-week ceasefire deal in the Israel-Hamas war to be accepted while criticizing Israel for insufficient aid deliveries into Gaza.
She emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate suffering and urged Hamas to agree to the ceasefire deal, which Israel had broadly accepted.
Harris also urged the Israeli government to increase aid flow into Gaza, including opening new border crossings and removing unnecessary restrictions. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the urgent need for more aid in Gaza, including through air drops.
Harris is scheduled to meet with Benny Gantz, an Israeli war cabinet member, in Washington. She expressed concern over the loss of innocent lives and highlighted a recent tragic incident involving aid convoy shootings in Gaza.
Harris delivered her remarks at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, emphasizing the historical significance of the location in the civil rights movement.
