The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has unveiled its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), with a bold ambition to elevate Nigeria’s digital literacy to 70% by 2027, alongside other strategic objectives.

During the Omniverse Summit held in Lagos, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, revealed the comprehensive roadmap consisting of eight strategic pillars. These pillars are geared towards accelerating digital transformation across critical sectors of the economy, aligning with the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The first pillar focuses on fostering digital literacy and nurturing talent, aiming to achieve a remarkable 70% digital literacy rate by 2027 through the implementation of the National Digital Literacy Framework. Additionally, initiatives like the “3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT)” program are underway to address the global talent deficit and position Nigeria as a technological leader.

In alignment with the Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy’s blueprint, the other pillars of SRAP 2.0 include building a robust technology research system, strengthening policy implementation and legal framework, promoting inclusive access to digital infrastructure and services, enhancing cybersecurity and digital trust, nurturing an innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem, forging strategic partnerships and collaborations, and cultivating a vibrant organizational culture and agile workforce within NITDA.

Inuwa emphasized the government’s commitment to creating enabling policies for citizens to thrive, with strategic aims to position Nigeria among the top 25 globally in key technological domains such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), robotics, blockchain, and additive manufacturing. NITDA envisions a digitally empowered Nigeria that thrives on innovation and fosters inclusive economic growth through technology.

The Omniverse Summit, a platform dedicated to driving the digital economy across the continent, aims to reshape narratives about Africa and Africans, ultimately reframing the future of economies, societies, and geopolitics. This initiative aligns with NITDA’s vision to propel Nigeria into a prominent role in the global digital landscape.
