Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has announced his departure from the role following the expiration of his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, the Portuguese tactician revealed that no new agreement has been reached with the NFF.

Peseiro’s exit comes on the heels of the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he guided the Nigerian team to the tournament’s final. However, despite their commendable performance, they fell short of clinching the title, losing 2–1 to Ivory Coast in the final match.

Following his departure from the Super Eagles, there has been interest from the Algeria Football Federation in hiring Peseiro. This interest stems from Djamel Belmadi’s dismissal as Algeria’s head coach following the team’s disappointing showing at the AFCON. Belmadi was sacked after Algeria failed to progress beyond the group stages of the tournament.

Peseiro’s tenure with Nigeria saw the team’s remarkable journey to the AFCON final, showcasing his coaching prowess and ability to lead the Super Eagles to competitive heights.
