Three suspected auto thieves and robbers have been caught by FCT Police Command agents, marking a major milestone in the fight against these crimes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs. The perpetrators, David Junior Godwin, Paul Taju, and Ali Shitu, were apprehended after a thorough investigation by law enforcement officials.
Revealing this development to the public during a press briefing held on Thursday, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ben Igweh, outlined the circumstances leading to the arrests. According to CP Igweh, the apprehension occurred on February 16, 2024, around 3:00 pm, based on actionable intelligence received by the police.
“The suspects are members of a four-man gang who specialize in interstate car theft and snatching,” stated CP Igweh during the briefing. “They are responsible for a series of car snatchings and the disappearance of several Hilux vehicles reported stolen in FCT and its environs.”
Further elaborating on the modus operandi of the syndicate, CP Igweh explained, “The suspects operate by infiltrating the FCT, carrying out their nefarious activities, and then transporting the stolen vehicles to Port-Harcourt for sale.”
The arrest of these suspects marks a significant stride in the ongoing efforts of the FCT Police Command to curb criminal activities within the territory. CP Igweh emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors alike.
In addition to the apprehensions, CP Igweh assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover any potential accomplices and dismantle the criminal network entirely. The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
