Mr. Urum Kalu Eke, one of the nominees for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors, declined his appointment. President Bola Tinubu nominated him along with four others, but Kalu-Eke did not participate in the Senate screening.
Consequently, the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions couldn’t recommend him for confirmation.
The confirmed nominees are Mr. Robert Agbide, Mr. Ado Yakubu Wanka, Prof. Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.
Senator Orji Kalu, representing Kalu-Eke’s constituency, explained that Kalu-Eke declined due to ongoing engagements and consultations with public and private bodies, which he deemed conflicting with the CBN board role.
Kalu-Eke, aged 60, previously served as the Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings until December 2021 and held positions at First Bank, Diamond Bank Plc, and Deloitte Haskins & Sells International.
