Commuters commuting from outlying towns to Abuja were subjected to lengthy delays and detours due to an unusual military checkpoint set up early Wednesday morning.
The blockade, originating near the popular Kugbo Mechanic at Karu, extended along the Nyanya Express Road and snaked its way into Mararaba, Nasarawa State, resulting in severe traffic congestion.
The Nyanya/Keffi road, a vital artery leading into Abuja, is notorious for its daily gridlock during morning rush hours as commuters head to their workplaces. Today, some commuters were forced to abandon their vehicles and traverse the congested route on foot from the Kugbo area in a desperate attempt to reach their destinations.
Despite the frustration and inconvenience faced by commuters, no official explanation was provided by road safety officials at the time of reporting. However, it was observed by our correspondent that the checkpoint was part of a routine security procedure conducted by the Presidential Guard Brigade.
