Lagos Govt Prohibits Use Of Public Address System For Religious Purposes

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), has urged religious leaders to be cautious with public address systems in public spaces, as it’s now illegal to use them excessively.

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting on achieving a noiseless Lagos, Ajayi highlighted that a significant number of noise pollution reports came from religious organizations.

He emphasized compliance with noise regulations to improve Lagosians’ quality of life and peaceful co-existence. Mrs. Olabisi Shonibare, Director of Noise and Emission Control at LASEPA, discussed the adverse effects of noise pollution and stressed the need for permits for public events to curb pollution. She advised worship centers to use insulation and soundproofing to mitigate noise.

Dr. Abdullah Shuaib of the Nigerian Inter-religious Council emphasized tolerance and technological solutions to reduce noise pollution and promote a peaceful environment.
