The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has joined forces with e-Health Africa to achieve a remarkable milestone: 95% digital literacy by the end of 2030.
Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of NITDA, emphasized this ambitious goal during a working visit from a team led by Mr. Abdulhamid Yahaya from e-Health Africa in Abuja.
Inuwa highlighted that achieving 95% digital literacy aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on diversification through industrialization and digitization. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in implementing digital initiatives, stressing NITDA’s commitment to executing seven out of nine strategic plans of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
“As part of our Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (2023-2027), we aim to assess national digital literacy coverage by 70% by 2027, serving as a litmus test for our ambitious target of 95% by 2030,” Inuwa stated.
NITDA is actively collaborating with development partners and governmental bodies to revise the digital skills curriculum, facilitating Nigeria’s digital transformation. Inuwa stressed the importance of focusing on skills in demand to build a robust tech ecosystem and address digital illiteracy issues.
He urged for increased investments in research and capacity building to foster collaborations with academia, startups, and NGOs, noting that the agency’s under-utilized digital literacy centers require attention. Additionally, NITDA is implementing the Federal Government’s Three Million Tech Talents (3MTT) initiative to bridge the IT talent gap and enhance the nation’s cybersecurity system to gain citizens’ digital trust.
Yahaya, the Team Lead of e-Health Africa, expressed alignment between their activities and NITDA’s mandate, reaffirming their readiness to collaborate for national development.
The partnership between NITDA and e-Health Africa marks a significant step towards achieving Nigeria’s digital literacy goals, paving the way for a more digitally inclusive and innovative society.
