A recent survey conducted by KnowBe4 Africa has revealed that 75 percent of Nigerians are comfortable sharing their personal information with Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, marking the highest level of trust among the countries studied.

The survey, titled ‘Generative AI in the Middle East and Africa Survey 2024’, examined responses from 1,300 users across Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Mauritius, Morocco, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. It found that Nigeria surpassed other nations in terms of trust in AI tools, with South Africa reporting 54 percent comfort level and the United Arab Emirates at 67 percent.

Anna Collard, the Senior Vice President of Content Strategy and Evangelist at KnowBe4 Africa, highlighted the widespread use of generative AI tools while stressing the importance of user education to mitigate potential risks associated with this technology.

Despite the high trust levels, the survey also indicated concerns about the accuracy and reliability of generative AI, with 83 percent of users expressing confidence in its capabilities. Additionally, 42 percent of respondents reported using generative AI several times a week, primarily for research purposes (67 percent) and time-saving benefits (81 percent).

However, the survey underscored the need for increased user education, particularly regarding the risks posed by deepfake technology. KnowBe4 Africa emphasized the importance of understanding the potential dangers associated with AI tools, despite their significant opportunities for users and organizations.

The findings of the survey shed light on the evolving landscape of AI adoption in Africa and the imperative of promoting responsible usage and awareness among users.
