The Federal Government has introduced a comprehensive curriculum encompassing Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) in newly established smart schools across the country.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), highlighted the government’s commitment to equipping learners in smart schools with the essential skills required to support Nigeria’s technological development. He made this announcement during his opening remarks at a workshop titled “Integrating Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) into the Smart Schools Programme,” held at the Digital Resource Centre (DRC) of UBEC.

The introduction of these programs aims to foster critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills among young learners, preparing them to navigate the challenges of the modern world effectively. Dr. Bobboyi emphasized that integrating DTCRA into the smart schools aligns with UBEC’s vision to nurture globally competitive learners.

Professor Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Centre (DRC), highlighted the collaborative efforts of experts from academia, the private sector, and the Commission in brainstorming ways to effectively integrate DTCRA skills into smart schools.

According to Mr. David Apeh, the UBEC spokesperson, the Commission recently established 37 smart schools across the country as part of its ambitious smart education program. These schools, located in each state of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, leverage modern teaching methods and state-of-the-art technologies to enhance learning outcomes. Currently, 14 of these schools have commenced operations, providing students with innovative learning experiences.

The implementation of the DTCRA curriculum in smart schools reflects the government’s proactive approach to preparing Nigerian students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.
