On Sunday, February 25, eleven passengers were abducted from a Peace Mass Transit Bus, while five others were kidnapped from a Sienna bus along the Ette Enugu Ezike road. The victims were taken to the bush, but a prompt and effective rescue operation by security operatives successfully freed all sixteen kidnapped individuals.
SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi Police Command, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued on Monday. He commended the rescue operation, describing it as “very swift and pragmatic.” However, Ovye-Aya noted that no arrests had been made at the time of the statement, emphasizing the commitment of the security forces to apprehending the suspects and ensuring they face justice.
Highlighting ongoing efforts, Ovye-Aya stated that security operatives were actively combing the bush to locate and apprehend the culprits. He asserted the determination of law enforcement to eradicate kidnapping and combat other criminal activities in Kogi and the country at large.
