Plateau State Governor Advocates for Digital Economy Growth to Empower Nigerian Youths

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has called on participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 46 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru to develop practical recommendations aimed at fostering and sustaining a digital economy in Nigeria.

During a meeting with SEC 46 participants at the Government House in Jos, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the potential of digital innovation to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths equipped with digital skills. He highlighted the significant contributions of Nigerian youths to the digital economy globally and encouraged leveraging their expertise to improve the economic landscape in Plateau and Nigeria at large.

Represented by Samuel Jatau, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Governor Mutfwang commended the theme of SEC 46, “Digital Economy, Youth Empowerment, and Sustainable Job Creation in Nigeria,” considering it relevant and timely. He underscored the importance of unleashing the potential of Nigerian youths to drive economic growth, particularly in Plateau State, which boasts a conducive environment for digital economy research and development.

In attendance, the Director General of NIPSS, Kuru, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, represented by the Director of Studies, NIPSS, Prof. Oluwafunmilayo Para-Mallam, highlighted the diverse expertise of SEC 46 participants from various fields and regions of the country. He stressed the intentional choice of the topic, given the global trend of developed nations embracing digital economies, and emphasized Nigeria’s need to catch up.

Prof. Omotayo expressed confidence that Plateau State would benefit significantly from the research conducted by SEC 46 participants, particularly in terms of youth empowerment and sustainable job creation. He announced the official inauguration of the course scheduled for the following week by the Minister of Digital Economy, expressing optimism that the recommendations generated would propel Nigeria’s digital economy development efforts forward.
