The Nigeria Police Force has taken swift action following the arrest of some operatives attached to the Special Tactical Squad in Abuja for extorting N30 million from a citizen. According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the extortion was exposed through the X platform, leading to the immediate apprehension of the officers and their accomplices.
Despite attempts to evade capture, the officers were arrested and are currently in custody. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered disciplinary proceedings to ensure prompt justice, reaffirming the commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within the Force.
The statement underscores the NPF’s zero-tolerance stance towards misconduct or corruption among its ranks. Transparency and accountability are deemed essential for maintaining public trust, and decisive action will be taken against any wrongdoing within the Force.
This incident follows a previous report in February where officers abducted a businessman in Abuja and extorted N29.9 million from him. Such actions not only tarnish the reputation of the Force but also undermine efforts to maintain law and order in the country.
