Bayobab, a leading pan-African digital connectivity solutions provider, has announced a strategic partnership with MTN Nigeria to land a groundbreaking 45,000km subsea cable in Nigeria. Known as ‘2Africa,’ this cable is set to be the longest under-water cable globally, traversing three continents and 33 countries, with a significant portion of its route passing through Africa.

The landing station for the 2Africa cable is situated at Mopo-Onibeju in the Lekki area of Lagos. This landmark project is expected to substantially contribute to the expansion of the rapidly growing African digital economy, thereby driving economic development across the continent.

Josephine Sarouk, the Managing Director of Bayobab Nigeria, emphasized the transformative impact of the cable on Africa’s economic landscape. She stated that the 2Africa cable would directly support economic development by enhancing broadband penetration and facilitating the growth of 4G and 5G networks. This increased connectivity is poised to benefit millions of individuals and businesses across Nigeria and beyond.

Sarouk highlighted Bayobab’s commitment to investing in submarine cables to address the continent’s broadband capacity needs and promote digital inclusion. The landing of the 2Africa cable in Nigeria is expected to catalyze the country’s digital economy, aligning with the government’s vision for a thriving digital ecosystem.

Moreover, the partnership between Bayobab and MTN Nigeria underscores their dedication to meeting the growing demand for digital services, including Fintech, IoT, AI, and e-learning. The cable’s landing is anticipated to enhance network resilience and capacity, thereby ensuring seamless access to digital services for consumers and businesses alike.

One of the significant benefits of the cable’s landing is the improved access to capacity for Nigerian service providers through an open-access cable landing station. This equitable access supports the development of a robust digital ecosystem, enabling enhanced internet connectivity and driving socioeconomic growth across various sectors.

In conclusion, the landing of the 2Africa cable in Nigeria marks a significant milestone in advancing the country’s digital infrastructure and fostering inclusive economic development. The project exemplifies Bayobab and MTN Nigeria’s commitment to driving connectivity and innovation to empower individuals and businesses across Africa.
