The Nigerian Army’s Troops of 1 Division dealt a serious blow to organized crime when they killed the infamous bandit kingpin Boderi. Boderi was responsible for a number of high-profile kidnappings, including the infamous events involving the Yauri schoolgirls, Greenfield University, and the Nigerian Defence Academy. The operation, which also resulted in the death of another kingpin named Bodejo, took place on Wednesday in the Bada-Riyawa axis of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, according to Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations.
During the ambush, six insurgents were neutralized, and a significant cache of weaponry was recovered, including two AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 rifle magazines, 300 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and 19 motorcycles, which were destroyed on site. Efforts are underway to authenticate the elimination of Boderi and Bodejo through additional means, leveraging intelligence sources.
In simultaneous operations across the Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, the troops of the 1 Division engaged insurgents, resulting in the neutralization of threats and the recovery of more firearms and ammunition. The army’s commitment to ongoing operations aimed at rooting out insurgents from these areas and providing relief to affected communities remains steadfast.
Additionally, troops on patrol encountered insurgents along the Maganda-Dausayi – Mugaba axis, engaging them in a fierce gun battle. Despite facing adversaries who used rustled herds of cattle as shields, the troops displayed remarkable resilience, neutralizing two insurgents and seizing weaponry and other contraband. Regrettably, some of the livestock caught in the crossfire, but efforts to pursue fleeing insurgents persist.
