The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has unequivocally denounced individuals advocating for a coup d’état in Nigeria, labeling them as adversaries with nefarious intentions contrary to the nation’s interests.
Speaking during an operational visit and facility inauguration at Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Gen. Musa emphasized the sanctity of democracy and asserted that any deviation from it is inherently malevolent. He reiterated that the military stands firmly in support of the democratically elected government, emphasizing that Nigeria’s democracy was hard-won and must be protected.
“Anyone calling for anything other than democracy is evil and does not wish us well,” Gen. Musa asserted, underlining the military’s commitment to upholding democratic principles. He emphasized that the armed forces thrive under democracy and are dedicated to safeguarding its continuation.
Acknowledging the challenges facing the nation, Gen. Musa stressed that these difficulties do not justify a military intervention. Instead, he urged all citizens to unite behind the government’s efforts to address these challenges and work towards national progress.
“While Nigeria may be undergoing a trying period, it is essential to recognize that democracy has enabled significant progress,” Gen. Musa remarked. He reassured Nigerians that concerted efforts are underway to overcome these challenges, urging unity and collaboration to defeat those opposed to the nation’s prosperity.
