Babcock University, located in Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, has joined forces with the British Council Nigeria and two other organizations to provide training to students through its Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning. The training focused on a variety of digital skills, including web design, 3D animation, graphic design, full stack development, network security, and advanced data analysis.
Professor Mobolanle Sotunsa, the director of the Centre, disclosed this development, stating that the initiative was made possible through a training grant from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) obtained last year. The collaboration underscores Babcock University’s commitment to equipping its students with contemporary skills relevant in today’s digital landscape.
Since securing approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer MBA and B.Sc programs, the Centre has successfully trained over 100 learners in less than three years. These learners are currently enrolled in various B.Sc programs in fields such as Accounting, Computer Science, and the Masters of Business Administration (MBA).
Professor Sotunsa highlighted the Center’s plans to introduce ten new undergraduate courses, including Nursing (Direct Entry for licensed Nurses), indicating the institution’s dedication to educational expansion and innovation. She emphasized the significant strides made by Babcock University’s Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning in contributing to Nigeria’s online learning space, with increased enrollment and impactful educational initiatives.
This collaborative effort between Babcock University and the British Council Nigeria underscores the importance of equipping students with digital skills essential for success in the modern workforce. As technology continues to evolve, initiatives like these are vital in preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing digital environment.
