The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has assured the public that its recent demands from the Federal Government will not lead to an increase in the price of petrol.

NARTO recently suspended its industrial action following a productive meeting with the Federal Government on Monday. Yusuf Othman, the President of NARTO, clarified the association’s stance during an interview with reporters on Wednesday.

Othman stated, “I do not think it will affect the pump price of petrol. It’s not likely to affect the pump price because what we want them (marketers) to do is to look within their margins and make some sacrifices. It’s very tough but if it is going to affect the pump price, by now, you would have seen the price changes.”

He further emphasized that NARTO’s demands primarily revolve around urging marketers to reassess their profit margins and make necessary adjustments without passing additional costs onto consumers. Othman highlighted the necessity for collaboration and shared responsibility among stakeholders to address the challenges faced by the transportation sector.

NARTO has consistently voiced concerns over the escalating cost of diesel, which is essential for powering their trucks used in transporting petroleum products nationwide. Despite the challenges, Othman stressed the importance of finding solutions that do not burden consumers with increased petrol prices.
