Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano state, has emphasized the crucial need for the establishment of more private surveyor companies in the region, citing their instrumental role in effective land management and development.
During a meeting held on Monday with a delegation from the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, led by its President Dr. Ibitoye Mathew Olomolatan, Gwarzo underscored the significance of expanding the presence of private surveyor firms in Kano.
In a statement released by Garba Shuaibu, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, it was disclosed that Olomolatan outlined the purpose of the delegation’s visit, which was to commemorate the annual general conference of the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria. He emphasized the need to foster collaboration between the institution and the State Government to engage private survey practitioners for mutual benefits in revenue generation and employment opportunities.
Expressing concern over the limited number of private surveyor companies in Kano compared to Lagos, Olomolatan stressed the urgency of rectifying this disparity, particularly considering Kano’s expansive landmass.
In response, Deputy Governor Gwarzo acknowledged the pivotal role of surveying in land management and echoed the necessity for more private enterprises to harness Kano’s vast potential. He encouraged both local and foreign investment in the sector, emphasizing the potential economic upswing it could bring to the region.
Gwarzo assured government support for the establishment of additional surveyor companies, pledging to facilitate compliance with legal requirements and ensure the availability of essential services.
Furthermore, he extended well wishes for the success of the NIS conference and urged delegates to explore Kano while offering their expertise to address urban congestion issues, thereby fostering a collaborative effort towards sustainable development in the state.
