Confirming reports, Jose Peseiro, the former head coach of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has disclosed that he’s been contacted by the Algeria Football Federation (FAF) to lead the Desert Foxes, Algeria’s national team.
Peseiro, currently a free agent following the conclusion of his contract with the NFF, achieved notable success with the Super Eagles, guiding them to a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Algeria finds itself in search of a new coach after parting ways with Djamel Belmadi last month, prompted by their disappointing performance in the recent tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Despite their previous triumph in 2019, the Desert Foxes have struggled to replicate their success in subsequent AFCON tournaments, failing to secure a victory since their championship win.
Acknowledging the interest from the FAF, Peseiro stated, “I received a lot of offers after the African Cup final. I received an offer from the FAF but I will first rest and my agent will take care of it.”
In addition to Peseiro, it’s been reported that another Portuguese coach, Carlos Querioz, is also being considered for the role, indicating a keen interest from Algeria in securing an experienced and capable leader for their national team.
