Fuel Scarcity Hits Abuja As Petroleum Tanker Drivers Commence Nationwide Strike

Many filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory are currently closed, causing long queues at the few outlets dispensing petrol.

This situation arises from the suspension of operations by the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), which began today as threatened.

As a result, transportation of petroleum products has halted, leading to the closure of many independent marketers’ stations.

The Federal Government had ordered oil marketers to negotiate with NARTO to avert this situation, and meetings have been ongoing to resolve the issues.

NARTO members cite the high cost of diesel required for their operations as the reason for the suspension, emphasizing that operational expenses exceed revenue.

The situation raises concerns about another round of fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
