The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans to adopt a comprehensive approach to accelerate the adoption of sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions across the country.
Speaking at the opening of the Executive session of the 18th National Council on Transportation Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali, underscored the importance of modernizing Nigeria’s transportation systems while aligning them with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Senator Alkali emphasized the need to pioneer green manufacturing and industrialization, with a particular focus on utilizing natural gas as a transition fuel alongside other renewable energy sources. He stressed that prioritizing innovative technologies in the transportation sector would not only help mitigate energy challenges but also promote sustainability and economic growth.
The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to implementing policies and strategies aimed at developing a safe, secure, affordable, and sustainable transportation system. He noted notable technological advancements by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, including the development of a National Land Transport Policy focusing on alternative energy and climate change.
Senator Alkali also commended state governments for their efforts in promoting multimodal transport and championing e-mobility and gas mobility projects. He reiterated that an efficient transportation system is essential for every aspect of human life and urged stakeholders to embrace innovation and accept new technologies in the transportation ecosystem.
In his remarks, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, emphasized the pivotal role of the transportation sector in sustainable growth and development, affirming the state government’s commitment to proffering sustainable solutions to current challenges.
