Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the extension of wage awards payments to workers and pensioners in the state for an additional six months. This decision comes as part of the governor’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the welfare of civil servants and retirees within the state.
Addressing recent claims of non-payment by some PDP governors, Governor Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring timely salary and pension disbursements since assuming office. He emphasized that the extension of wage awards demonstrates his administration’s dedication to meeting the financial needs of workers and pensioners during these challenging times.
Previously, Governor Makinde had approved wage awards of N25,000 for workers and N15,000 for pensioners, reflecting his administration’s recognition of their invaluable contributions to the state. The initial six-month extension of these payments was set to expire in March 2024. However, with the latest announcement, workers and pensioners can now look forward to continued financial support from the state government.
Governor Makinde made these remarks during the commissioning ceremony of the dualized 12km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe-Elebu Apata Road in Ibadan, which has been renamed Theophilus Akinyele Road. This infrastructure project underscores the governor’s commitment to improving the state’s road network and enhancing overall socio-economic development.
