Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission is reportedly contemplating relocating certain departments to Lagos, according to a document obtained by a reliable source.

Dated February 14, 2024, the memo outlines the Commission’s intention to shift select units to Lagos as part of its strategic objectives to bolster service delivery, streamline operations, and maximize asset utilization.

The memo emphasizes, “In line with our objectives of improving organizational efficiency, driving industry growth, and managing office accommodation in Abuja, we are exploring the possibility of relocating certain units to Lagos.”

This initiative aims to capitalize on the Commission’s assets in Lagos while curbing operational costs. Departments are tasked with identifying units capable of functioning independently with minimal supervision, with submissions expected by February 23, 2024.

Signed by Dr. Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu on behalf of the Commission, the memo signifies a proactive approach to resource optimization and operational enhancement within the regulatory body.

This development follows the recent relocation of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters to Lagos, indicative of a broader trend of strategic relocations geared toward bolstering operational effectiveness across government agencies.

As the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission explores avenues for improved efficiency, stakeholders eagerly anticipate further details on the potential relocation and its implications for the petroleum sector.
