In the Toyin area of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area, Lagos State, a gas explosion late on Tuesday wreaked havoc, causing the destruction of at least 18 shops. Margaret Adeseye, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, provided an update on the incident, attributing the explosion to the unloading of six 75-50 (kg) gas cylinders from a mini truck at a gas station.

According to Adeseye, the explosion occurred due to a compromised head cap on one of the cylinders, sparking a fire that rapidly spread to the opposite side of the street. The aftermath of the explosion resulted in the obliteration of 18 shops, along with their contents, and the mini truck.

This tragic incident underscores the inherent risks associated with gas-related activities, underscoring the critical need for stringent safety measures in handling and transporting such materials. The affected businesses and individuals now face the arduous task of rebuilding, while the community contends with the aftermath of this destructive explosion.
