Tragedy struck Sango Market in Ibadan as a fire, reportedly caused by high voltage, destroyed 24 shops, including Muideen Mustapha’s tailor shop, leaving victims like him grappling with the loss of property worth millions. Mustapha, known as Isekolowo, narrated the incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, February 4, 2024, and pleaded for assistance from the government and well-meaning individuals.

The market, a hub for various commodities, witnessed no casualties, thanks to the timely response of security personnel, the police, and the fire service. Mustapha emphasized the poor electricity supply in the days leading up to the incident, urging authorities to address the issue.

This unfortunate event adds to a concerning trend, with at least five fire incidents recorded in Oyo State within the past month, affecting markets like Amuloko and Ajegunle. The affected traders, including Abdullah Ajao, a meat seller, appeal for support as they grapple with the aftermath of these destructive fires. The call for assistance extends beyond immediate relief, urging government intervention and the kindness of individuals to help rebuild the lives and businesses affected by these disasters.
