Stella Okotete, the Executive Director (Business Development) of the Nigeria Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, sheds light on her absence from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. Despite being recommended by President Tinubu for a ministerial role last year, her confirmation was withheld by the Senate due to unresolved “security clearance” issues.
Okotete, hailing from Delta Central senatorial district, contends that the Senate’s refusal to clear her is rooted in “purely political games.” She attributes the opposition to envy and a fear that she might contend in the 2027 Delta State gubernatorial election, clarifying that she has no such intentions.
Denying any ongoing investigation by security agencies, Okotete emphasizes her commitment to national security. She asserts that her continued role as a NEXIM Bank director demonstrates her non-threatening status to the country.
In a separate development, Okotete was appointed as the national woman leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) in 2020.
