In his inaugural address as the 12th president of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu emphasized the urgent need for both federal and state governments to address the issue of multiple taxation hindering business growth and job creation.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Abuja, Chief Obegolu stressed the importance of creating an environment where businesses can thrive and contribute to employment opportunities. He asserted, “We must confront multiple taxation and eliminate it. We must put Nigerians to work.”

Highlighting the pivotal role of the private sector in driving economic opportunities, Chief Obegolu emphasized that businesses, especially small enterprises, flourish when the government acts as a supportive partner rather than a hindrance.

Chief Obegolu commended the federal government’s recent decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidy and initiatives such as the unification of the foreign exchange market and the student loan program. While acknowledging that these measures might have initially tested the resilience of Nigerians, he expressed confidence that they would ultimately yield positive results.

Furthermore, Chief Obegolu urged the government to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, represented by chambers of commerce, citing the potential benefits for the business community, society, and the national economy.

In a message of support, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, hailed ACCI as a beacon for innovation and economic growth, and a steadfast advocate for improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
