In response to recent claims suggesting that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was introduced to government by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation’s Foot Soldiers have emphatically refuted such allegations. The group dismissed the notion as both “ridiculous” and “hallucinatory,” asserting that it was Governor Akeredolu himself who handpicked Aiyedatiwa as his deputy for the second term.
The Director of Information for the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation, Mr Kayode Fasua, issued a comprehensive statement on Sunday, setting the record straight on the circumstances surrounding Aiyedatiwa’s appointment. According to the group, Governor Akeredolu had consistently expressed a desire for Aiyedatiwa to serve as his deputy due to the latter’s unwavering loyalty and diligence.
The controversy arose following statements by Dr Doyin Odebowale, the former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies to Governor Akeredolu, who alleged that several cabinet members paid Betty Akeredolu and Akeredolu’s son, Babajide, to secure appointments in government.
In countering these claims, the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation reiterated that Betty Akeredolu played no role in Aiyedatiwa’s entry into government. The group underscored the late governor’s trust in Aiyedatiwa’s capabilities, emphasizing that his selection was based on merit and personal attributes that made him a suitable choice for the deputy governor position.
This response aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding Aiyedatiwa’s political journey, dispelling any notions of external influence in his appointment. The Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation remains steadfast in defending the integrity of Governor Aiyedatiwa and the transparent process that led to his role as the deputy governor of Ondo State.
