The Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) in Enugu has announced a price increase for a bag of sachet water to N300, citing a 500 percent rise in the prices of raw materials and other production challenges.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting held on Feb. 8, 2024, due to the overwhelming challenges faced by members. Factors contributing to the price hike include increased costs of raw materials, such as nylon, purifying materials, water procurement, diesel, electricity, transportation, and maintenance. Additionally, various fees charged by state and local government agencies have been revised upwards.

Consequently, many producers have shut down their factories. The price increase will take effect from Feb. 16, 2024.
Any violators will face a fine of N200,000 per truck/driver caught by the ATWAP Task Force. Operations will be suspended from Feb. 12 to Feb. 15, 2024, to address the challenges faced by members.
