The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has highlighted the distressing plight of retirees in certain states, where monthly pension payments are as meager as N450, N500, and N1,000.
The NUP President, Mr. Godwin Abumisi, emphasized the severe hardships faced by pensioners, particularly in the Southeast, due to economic challenges.
Abumisi revealed specific examples of extremely low pension amounts received in states like Borno, Gombe, and Jigawa, attributing the nationwide disparity to a lack of pension harmonization. He criticized state governments for failing to implement reviewed minimum wage, resulting in no corresponding pension increases.
