President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate project, marking a significant milestone in housing and urban development initiatives.

Simultaneously, the Tinubu-led government has commenced the development of a pilot housing project comprising 3,112 units in Karsana, Abuja.

The Renewed Hope Cities and Estate project is a strategic response to the growing demand for housing and urban infrastructure in Nigeria.

During the inauguration ceremony, President Tinubu underscored the importance of providing affordable and high-quality housing for citizens, which is crucial for fostering sustainable urban development.

The pilot housing project in Karsana, Abuja, comprises 3,112 housing units, designed to meet various housing needs and enhance the city’s overall housing landscape.

Officials have outlined that the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates program will operate as a cross-subsidy initiative, with 80% of the housing units sold at commercial rates and the remaining 20% offered at concessional rates to low- and medium-income Nigerians associated with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

The concept behind this arrangement is to utilize profits generated from the commercial units to subsidize housing for low- and medium-income earners.

Under the Renewed Cities and Estate Program, various ownership avenues are available to Nigerians to enhance housing affordability.

These options include single-digit, 30-year mortgage loans facilitated by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Rent-to-Own schemes enabling beneficiaries to gradually contribute towards ownership through periodic payments, and Outright Purchase options tailored for high-income earners.
