In a heart-wrenching incident, a final year student of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, identified as Adaze Doris Jaja, has reportedly taken her own life in a hotel located in the Ijebu Area of the state. The 31-year-old student was discovered lifeless, with an empty bottle of sniper, a potent insecticide, found beside her. The discovery was made when she was found foaming in her mouth.
The Ogun State Police spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragic incident on Tuesday, revealing that the 400-level student was rushed to the hospital but was ultimately confirmed dead. The Director of Be-Happy Hotel in Ago Iwoye reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer on January 27 at approximately 7:30 a.m.
According to Odutola, the hotel staff member informed the hotel’s director that Adaze Doris Jaja was discovered lying unconscious and foaming in the mouth at 6 a.m. on the same day. An empty bottle of Sniper 1000EC/DDVP was found beside her, signaling a distressing end to the life of the young student.
The police spokesperson further stated that the student was initially rushed to Best Care Hospital and later transferred to Love and Care Hospital in Ago Iwoye, where her death was confirmed. The police visited the scene of the incident, recovering the empty sniper bottle as part of their investigation.
As the community grapples with the shock of this tragic loss, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the university mortuary for an autopsy, shedding light on the circumstances leading to this devastating event. The incident highlights the pressing need for mental health awareness and support within educational institutions, emphasizing the importance of addressing the emotional well-being of students.
