The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has introduced the Service Charter, a program aimed at enhancing accountability, transparency, and efficiency in service delivery within the Nigerian maritime domain.
During the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described the launch of the Service Charter as a “significant milestone” in efforts to improve the efficiency, transparency, and customer focus of the maritime sector.
Highlighting the critical role of the maritime sector in the nation’s economic development, Oyetola emphasized its importance as a lifeline for trade, commerce, and connectivity, both domestically and globally. He underscored the need for the sector to operate with the highest standards of efficiency, transparency, and accountability, acknowledging the dawn of a new era in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Represented by the Director of Maritime Safety and Security, Babatunde Bombata, Oyetola emphasized the importance of adapting and innovating to stay ahead of the curve in today’s rapidly evolving global landscape. He lauded the NIMASA Service Charter as a step in the right direction, aligning efforts with international best practices and setting a new standard for service delivery in the maritime sector.
Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of NIMASA, described the Service Charter under the theme “Service Redefined” as a commitment to transforming stakeholder service, embracing innovation, and fostering a culture of excellence within the organization. He emphasized that the launch signified a paradigm shift in NIMASA’s approach to fulfilling its mandate and marked a significant step towards providing world-class services that meet stakeholders’ needs.
Jamoh reiterated NIMASA’s commitment to meeting and exceeding stakeholders’ expectations, outlining the Service Charter’s promises to all individuals interacting with NIMASA, including ship owners, seafarers, port operators, and members of the public.
