As the Super Eagles gear up for their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals showdown with South Africa, the Lagos State Government has established a mega viewing centre at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan. This initiative is part of a broader effort, with 25 viewing centres distributed across the state, encouraging residents to savor the AFCON spectacle that commenced on January 13 in Cote d’Ivoire.

The semi-final clash with South Africa at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake marks the fourth tournament meeting, with the Super Eagles having emerged victorious in the previous three encounters. Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, emphasized the significance of providing an opportunity for fans to witness the match, especially considering Lagos’s status as the sports capital and home to the largest base of Super Eagles supporters.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about the national team’s triumph in the match, highlighting the team’s demonstrated capacity and technical prowess. In addition to the Mega Viewing Centre at Onikan, other designated centres are spread across various locations, including Agege Stadium, Abesan Sports Centre, Alimosho LGA Secretariat, Femi Gbajabiamila Mini Stadium, Surulere, Epe Recreation Centre, and more.

This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and shared excitement among football enthusiasts, contributing to the vibrant football culture in Lagos.
