The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Abia State University, Prof Godwin Emezue, has been freed from captivity after spending 11 days in the hands of kidnappers.

The abduction occurred at a filling station in Umuahia, the state capital, and Prof Emezue was released on Tuesday night.

Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N35 million, and they released footage showing the professor being tortured, with threats to his life if the ransom was not paid.

While the ransom demand was not fully met, Prof Emezue is currently undergoing medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital due to the injuries sustained from the ordeal.
