World Bank MD Visits Nigeria for Development Talks

Anna Bjerde, the World Bank Managing Director of Operations, is set to embark on a two-day visit to Nigeria, commencing on Tuesday (today). The purpose of her visit, as stated in a media advisory on Monday, is to enhance the bank’s collaboration with Nigeria on crucial aspects of the country’s development agenda.

During her stay, Bjerde is scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with the Hon. Minister of Finance, Olawale Edun, the Hon. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso.

Additionally, she will participate in a meeting of Western and Central Africa Ministers of Finance, jointly hosted by the Government of Nigeria and the World Bank. The media advisory outlines that at this meeting, Ms. Bjerde will delve into discussions regarding the region’s ambitious development priorities. The focus will be on how additional International Development Association (IDA) resources can contribute to propelling countries forward, fostering sustainable growth, jobs, and development.

Accompanying Bjerde on her visit are other key members of the World Bank’s delegation, including Ousmane Diagana, the Vice President for Western and Central Africa, Sérgio Pimenta, the Vice President for Africa at the International Finance Corporation, and Ethiopis Tafara, the Vice President of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.
