The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against alleged corruption in the Federal Ministry of Aviation, freezing an account belonging to Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, brother of former minister Hadi Sirika, over suspected contract fraud totaling N8.06 billion.

Abubakar Sirika, a Level-16 officer and deputy director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, faces scrutiny after approximately N3.2 billion in contract fraud was traced to his private company, Engirios Nigeria Limited. Investigations reveal that several contracts were awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited during Hadi Sirika’s tenure as minister, with no evidence of execution.

The contracts, including construction projects and procurement of equipment, were allegedly awarded to Abubakar Sirika’s company but remain incomplete. Despite receiving payments totaling N3.2 billion, investigators found no progress on the contracted projects.

Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, listed as MD/CEO of Engirios Nigeria Limited, is under investigation for allegedly transferring funds received from these contracts to various entities and individuals. The EFCC has frozen his account and is pursuing further inquiries into the matter.

Former Minister Hadi Sirika, previously associated with controversies such as the Nigeria Air scandal, served in key aviation roles during the administrations of former President Buhari Muhammadu. The EFCC’s actions underscore efforts to combat corruption and ensure accountability in government contracts.
