The announcement of Victor Osimhen’s absence from the Super Eagles’ squad for the upcoming match was made by Babafemi Raji, the team’s media officer, in a statement released on Monday.
The 25-year-old player was not able to travel with the rest of the team to Buoke for the semi-final match; instead, he remained in Abidjan under close observation with a member of the medical team. The statement mentioned the possibility of his rejoining the squad if cleared by the following morning, before 5 pm.
The statement outlined the team’s travel plans, stating, “We will fly from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight.” However, it was clarified that Victor Osimhen would not be part of this trip due to abdominal discomfort.
The team’s medical staff verified that Osimhen was under careful monitoring, with a medical team member staying back in Abidjan with him. The statement expressed the hope that he might be cleared to rejoin the squad before 5 pm on the following day.
Importantly, the statement did not provide confirmation regarding whether Osimhen’s injury might prevent him from participating in the upcoming clash against the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.
