The High Commission of Nigeria in Pretoria, South Africa, has issued a cautionary advisory to the Nigerian community ahead of the 2024 African Cup of Nations semi-final match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana.
The statement warns against provocative celebrations in case of a Super Eagles victory, citing inflammatory online comments from some South African citizens directed at Nigerians.
These comments include veiled threats against Nigerians and their cultural practices, such as cooking jollof rice, if the Bafana Bafana loses.
The advisory urges Nigerians to be careful with their words, choose safe locations to watch the match, and avoid loud or riotous celebrations.
It emphasizes maintaining good conduct and law-abiding behavior before, during, and after the match. Additionally, the commission advises against reciprocating any provocations but instead reports them to the appropriate authorities.
