The Lagos State Taskforce, under the leadership of Chairman CSP Shola Jejeloye, has arrested 51 individuals suspected to belong to a highway gang notorious for harassing truck drivers along the Apapa/Oshodi and Lagos/Badagry Expressway.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday morning. Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the arrests via his official social media handle.
The suspects are alleged to have used coercive tactics to extort money from truck drivers, claiming affiliation with the now-defunct Lagos State Parks and Garages Agency.
Following the dissolution of the agency’s Park and Garages Committee in September 2023, coordination of activities across motor parks and garages was handed over to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
