Nigerians Voice Disappointment as Grammy Awards Conclude Without Wins for Nominated Artists

Published

on

As the curtains closed on the 66th Grammy Awards held at Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, United States, Nigerians are grappling with disappointment as none of the nominated Nigerian artists clinched an award.

Renowned artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Ayra Starr were nominated across various categories, but unfortunately, victory eluded them all. Davido’s loss, in particular, has stirred significant discussions on social media platforms, with Nigerians expressing their sentiments about his defeat to Tyla.

The disappointment resonated strongly on Twitter, where users shared their reactions to the Grammy outcomes. While the artists’ talents were celebrated, there was a palpable sense of letdown that they couldn’t secure a win on the prestigious international stage.

Twitter Reactions:

@danielregha
Grammy award is practically w¤rthless, the organization l¤st their credibility years back. Tyla’s terrib!e song (Water) being recognized as the “Best African Music Performance” is proof enough. Just like the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the Grammys doesn’t define the greatness of an artiste, & people d¤n’t bag noms or win a Grammy based on merit; So Davido & Burna losing all their nominations shouldn’t be a big deal. Grammys nowadays are a g!ft for “industry plants”. No offense.

@jaylenmabonga
Tyla clearly deserved the Grammy award.
Ayra Starr came close. Forget Asake & Davido they stood no chance at all.
God’s time is the best
I love how Nigerians are losing woefully in the Grammy. Y’all will learn to appreciate your own thing by force, especially that fr0g head that loves twerking for his slav3 masters too much.
They packed themselves like sardine and went to the Grammy yesterday but if it was Headies you won’t see them there. Keep on f00ling yourselves until y’all realize that these people are using you to sell their show. That is why I love Wizkid like man doesn’t give much fu*cks about these things.

@AhmadAb47
So Tyla of South Africa beat our very own #Davido at the Grammy Guess them go use that one console themselves when Super Eagles thra$h Bafana Bafana. No Nigerian should sad over this…

@Mukhtyadam
To our beloved Davido, you may not have won the #GRAMMYs tonight, but you’ve won our hearts and the hearts of millions in the 30BG family worldwide. We love and celebrate you as the true champion you are! ❤️ #Davido #30BG #Grammys

Davido took to his Instagram to Congratulate Tyla as she secured the Best African Performance at the Grammys.

Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has reportedly died after a snakebite at her residence in the Federal Capital Territory.

The 25-year-old classical, jazz, R&B and soul artiste was said to have been bitten in the early hours of the day and rushed to two hospitals for treatment. Reports indicate she could not receive care due to the unavailability of anti-venom.

Sources said this was not the first time a snake had been sighted around her residence. As of the time of filing this report, health authorities and the police were yet to issue an official statement.
