New FCT Police Commissioner Takes Charge Amid Security Challenges

Benneth C. Igweh, the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has assumed duty as the 31st CP in the nation’s capital amidst a concerning security situation. Igweh takes over from Haruna G. Garba, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

 

Born on October 7, 1968, in Akatta, Oru-East Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, CP Benneth C. Igweh’s resumption of office was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

 

In his inaugural meeting with Senior Officers of the Command, the new CP emphasized a commitment to zero tolerance for laxity, urging officers to be dutiful and fully embrace their responsibilities. Igweh outlined his vision for an administration characterized by policing in line with global best practices, utmost respect for fundamental human rights, visibility policing, and a proactive approach to addressing security challenges in the territory.

 

Additionally, he called upon residents of the FCT to collaborate with the police in intelligence gathering and other supportive measures that can contribute to restoring peace to the city. The new Commissioner’s arrival signals a determined effort to address and overcome the prevailing security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory.
