It is a tragic incident as former Bolivian international Sergio Jauregui was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant during a friendly match in Mexico on Sunday. The attacker approached Jauregui on the pitch, firing six shots during the match in the Santa Inés neighborhood of Cuautla, Morelos.
Emergency services and ambulances swiftly responded to the violent scene, initiating an immediate investigation to apprehend the shooter. Atlético de San Luis Rey expressed condolences for the former player’s untimely death through a Facebook statement, acknowledging Jauregui’s contributions as their Captain in the last Torneo de los Soles.
“We regret the death of our former player and Captain Sergio Jauregui, who defended the colors of our team. We send our deepest condolences to his family,” the statement read.
